Out With The Trash

See what happens when they make lanes too narrow

Taking out the trash is a fairly mundane subject that people mostly take for granted.  That’s true in Bangkok, just like it is in Toronto.  Most of the big streets get served by big garbage trucks, just like in Toronto.  However, what’s not like Toronto is what happens during garbage pick-up on tiny, narrow streets like the one my apartment is on.

The other day, while walking to work, I noticed the collection system in action.  Bags of garbage are taken out of a holding room adjacent to the lane and a motorcycle pick-up guy, collects it.  This system can’t be that efficient because the motorcycle can only hold so much trash, so I imagine that he makes a bunch of trips.  Garbage trucks, at least the big ones, can’t easily fit in my lane, so a motorcycle garbage hawker comes to the rescue.

By the way, check out the last photo.  They do separate food waste from other waste.  And they seem to go further in that there are bags of orange peels separated from the regular food waste.  Maybe something special happens to them.
